Bringing the community together to ensure a bright future for the next generation.

A non-profit organization supporting education, innovation and collaboration.

The Imagine Learning Centre (ILC) was born from an initial need to educate a small group of international children, but quickly developed in to a community centre with the aim of uniting the rapidly changing and increasingly multicultural community as a whole.

The ILC aims to empower the people of Dehla, Rote for a bright and sustainable future in a landscape of rapidly increasing tourism development, and to create an environment that, through education, play, collaboration and exchange of knowledge, will:

●     enable children to learn, grow and play together

●     provide activities to integrate local and international children

●     be a place where environmental and community projects flourish

●     provide access to capacity building education and training

●     preserve and place value upon local culture and language

Bringing the next generation together, all under one roof.

We are currently operating from two separate sites: one for the pre-school age children, and another for the primary age, with the majority of the community programmes taking place in the primary school building. This makes planning challenging and negatively impacts on all resources.

There is a real need for a purpose built centre which can accommodate all of the ILC’s current events and programmes, as well as future goals.

Programmes, events and training to enable a safe and fulfilling future for all members of the community.

From water safety, health and hygiene and environmental classes, to English and Bahasa Indonesia lessons, the ILC is already providing quality education for our vibrant community. Our aim is to be able to keep providing all these and more.

Keeping the Rotenese culture alive.

One of the primary concerns of the older local population is that the next generation are losing their cultural identity. The ILC wants to work with the local community to not only encourage the next generation to keep hold of the amazing cultural heritage, traditions and vast wisdom that their elders hold about the local environment, but also to learn from it ourselves.

“I just want the local children to be useful and have a better future. I also want families from other countries to unite with the local children.”

— Elias, local founder of the ILC and donator of land.
